In the second quarter of 2017 ICOs have raised $797 million while venture capital raised $235 million in the same period.
Here are the largest ICOs for Q2 of this year: Bancor($153 million), Status ($95 million), TenX ($83.1 million), and MobileGo ($53.1 million).
Will ICO make traditional VC companies obsolete is yet to be seen; Because countries started to warn their citizens against participating in ICOs, while some countries, like the People’s Republic of China, have made them illegal.
ICOs are just a few years old (the first ICO was held in July of 2013), but already returns on tokens have exceeded that of major cryptocurrencies in Q2 of this year.
This is probably just the beginning of a new era in crowdfunding by the use of cryptocurrencies.
