Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, said on September 8th, that the Byzantium hardfork will be simulated this month on testnet.
This morning the Ethereum testnet implemented nine ethereum improvement protocols. These protocols are designed to improve the overall functionality of the ethereum blockchain. The simulated hardfork will run on testnet for about three weeks, to ensure there are no bugs, therefore the real Byzantium hard fork will probably occur around October 9th.
Scaling will be a major issue for ethereum if it intends to support millions of decentralized applications. The Byzantium hardfork is badly needed and will be implemented if the simulation is successful.
